New Aviator styles for 2010

It’s been a very busy period of late for most of the major designer frames manufacturers as we have seen an explosion of new models entering the designer glasses frames catalogues so far this year. Luxottica, the Italian giants who are the sole distributors for some the worlds biggest designer brands such as Prada, Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabanna have had to keep up with orders from most of the major high street retailers as the demand for these models was quite unexpected considering the current financial climate.

It was a strange start the year with last years revamped Ray Ban wayfarers still selling like hot cakes for people who wanted a pair of prescription glasses with colour, style and good sturdy build. I must admit that I’ve been quite surprised by how well the Wayfarers are continuing to sell as these trends generally only last a season before sales fall by around at least 30%. I can only assume that this is due to some clever and slick advertising by the frame retailers and Ray Ban themselves. The other reason maybe the fact that Ray Ban have extended the range of colours in this model to attract a wider band of consumers.

It looks like we are now entering a transitional stage with the regards to the current trend of aviator styled prescription glasses frames as many top designers such as Mykita Elliott have released a range of contemporary styled aviators which is their own take on the American classic. Whatever happens next on the designer glasses frames scene is anyone’s guess but one thing’s for sure, Aviators are here for at least the rest of the season and trust me when I say that they are going to get bigger and bolder in style as the months progress.
